Your private day trip from Skagway begins with a 20-minute van ride to the historic site of Dyea with insightful commentary from your private van/driver along the way. Once a famous Alaska Gold Rush town of 10,000 prospectors, now nature has now fully reclaimed this land.
Your guide will fit you with a bike and escort you along five miles of easy pedaling on flat dirt roads with stops at historic and natural hot spots. Search for eagles and view colorful wildflowers while enjoying the beautiful mountain vistas as you pedal along.
At the conclusion of your biking route, you’ll meet your guide for a two-mile hike on the historic Chilkoot Trail. The first mile is up and down over uneven terrain with the second mile being relatively flat. You’ll stop often to learn about the area, take photos, and quench your thirst. The hike ends when you reach the bank of the Taiya River.
Now on to part three, your rafting float trip! You’ll be outfitted with rubber boots and a life jacket although this peaceful river has no whitewater. This relaxing float by raft is the grand finale of your amazing outdoor experience near Skagway. Watch for bald eagles diving for fish as you float along, or glimpse a river otter sliding off the bank. At the conclusion of your active day, you’ll return to Skagway by van.
